Surya Namaskar

6:22 AM

So today (8/7) has been my second day of practicing my Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar). Yesterday I noticed I had a huge burst of energy. I am not sure if that was a coincidence but I was able to notice a difference. Usually no, pretty much always on days when the kids are in school I will take a nap. Well for the first time I just couldn't settle down to sleep. So instead I was able to get stuff done, which was really nice. I am curious to see today if I will feel the same. Today is Friday which means the don't have summer school so it will be the perfect way to notice if there is a difference. I really enjoy doing sun salutations because of the sequence and it allows my body to wake up because I get up at 5:30 am which is unheard of for me. I am not a morning person and probably never will be. But when you wake up with a deeper sense of motivation, anything is really possible.  I also had been doing some reading on the benefits of doing Sun Salutations. Some of the benefits include..

  • Helps with digestive system
  • Helps with nervous System
  • Clearing out the Solar Plexus and expanding it to heighten mental stability and intuition
  • Stretching and strengthening muscles
  • Weight loss

The biggest reason why I am doing Sun Salutations is to better my mental health and to be ready to take on the day. I am firm believer of alternative medicine and having healthy chakras. Your body is sacred and you are given only one. In order to have a healthy physical body you absolutely need to have a healthy mind. Without the balance you simply have chaos. Below is a picture of my mediation altar, which is where I also do my yoga. Each item on my altar holds a significant meaning to me. I have my favorite photograph which is when we vacationed in California with my sister last year. The cross is from my confirmation when I was in high school. The wrestler on the match box represents my husband because he is a fan. The sand and vase are from our wedding which was used for our unity ceremony. The sticks in the vase are just incense sticks. It's multi functional. The stones on the base of the altar are my chakra stones to help with my mediation. And then we have the incense, sage, candles, and oil. I am a big sucker for smells.

I also added to my yoga space a motivation board. Visuals have always been a big thing for me and just being able to see the number of X's (which is 20 pounds btw) is quite humbling. I also wanted to do a reward system because we all deserve something when we are able to meet milestones. The picture is kind of hard to make out by the rewards are..
  • 200 Pounds: Tattoo
  • 190 Pounds: New Purse
  • 180 Pounds: Massage
  • 170 Pounds: Clothes Shopping
I don't have a target or end weight goal. I would really like to see myself below 200 pounds first before really thinking about it. But I also feel like having a reward for ever ten pounds lost will help keep up with the motivation. Or at least try anyway. I also included a quote of the day which I pick out after I do my sun salutations.

So I want to know..
What do you do to help motivate you? Do you have any visuals?
What do you like to do to start your day of right?
